Allhiphop.com reported a rumor that hip hop artist Yung Berg was beat up in Detroit while he was in town for a local radio station HOT 102.7's Summer Jamz.
It was confirmed today that the Epic/Koch recording artist Yung Berg missed a scheduled performance in Detroit on Saturday (August 23), following an early morning altercation that left the young rapper badly bruised.
According to several sources, the 23-year-old Chicago rapper was robbed and beaten during an altercation at the popular Downtown nightclub early Saturday morning.
Shortly after entering the venue, which is reportedly co-owned by rapper Trick Trick, Berg, born Christian Ward, was allegedly confronted by a group of men over disparaging comments he had made about Detroit rappers, during a previous visit to the city.
According to a witness, despite the presence of his personal bodyguard who was also involved in the fight, Yung Berg was unable to defend himself and was reportedly relieved of his jewelry, including a multi-colored diamond encrusted “Transformers” chain.
Once alerted to the situation, Yung Berg's driver, hired by Radio One because of his security background, interjected, escorting him out of the venue and out of harm's way.
Hours after rumors of the altercation appeared online Saturday, photos began circulating of a man sporting the chain. Trick Trick declined to speak on the incident.
This is the second time Yung Berg has made headlines in as many weeks.
Only days before the August 12 release of his debut album Look What You Made Me, Yung Berg and members of his entourage were arrested in New York following an argument with a limousine driver.
He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of marijuana.
At press time, the Detroit Police Department had no comment on the altercation.
